TEPLICE (53 000 inhabitants, 205 m above sea level)
The district of Teplice is the smallest one of all districts in the
Czech republic but, on the other hand, the most populated one. Its
area is 469km2 and 128 000 inhabitants live here. Spa Teplice is one
of the oldest in Europe treating kinetic problems, blood circulation
problems and vocational diseases. There is also a children’s
treatment unit where states after children’s paralysis and kinetic
problems are treated. Based on the magic power of spa springs and
busy tourist industry, Teplice has always been called “Small Paris”
or “the Salon of Europe”. The suitable spot to start trips leading
to natural and cultural monuments is in Teplice which also offers
peace and quiet in its vast parks, interesting architecture of
buildings in the Empire and Art Nouveau style, beautiful views from
Doubravska mountain, rich variety of cultural programmes and other
forms of entertainment.
The North Bohemia Philharmonic Orchestra is also based in Teplice.
Its regular concerts with renowned Czech and foreign musicians
attract not only spa visitors but local people as well.
The annual Ludwig van Beethoven’s festival of music also has a long
tradition. The rich history of this region is evident in monuments
found nearby such as the old Slavic fort in
Zábrušany, the ruin Osek, the Vultures’ castle, Sukoslav, rebuilt
buildings of Doubravka, the Pink castle in Krupce, the château in
Bilina, Duchcov and Teplice, the monastery in Osek and Bohosudov and
many others.
